Life By The Sea in Rye NH
Posted on 11 July 2009
New Hampshire has the smallest coastline in the country, and when you drive along the coast, you see all kinds of things having to do with living on the ocean. I saw this mailbox on the side of the road in front of a Rye NH home and had to stop and take a picture of it.
It certainly made me smile, hope it makes you smile, too!

He looks both protective and proud of his mailbox.
Hey Sarah – those are good words – he does look just like that, doesn’t he? It’s like he’s holding it out there for all the world to see.
I know this mailbox well, as I am across the street from it all the time. It has a long history. First it was a bigger dolphin that had a huge smile, but it was damaged. Then they got a tiny dolphin statue next to a regular mailbox. The current incarnation came in about three years ago. It has always looked a bit more severe (those eyes) and we think it is just daring someone to try to knock it down like the smiley guy.
Hi Jodi – thanks for your comment! I had forgotten all about that bigger smiling dolphin – I’m glad you mentioned that, and I remember when it was damaged, too. I love seeing him out there every time I drive by him.
Thanks for checking out this post!
