Newcastle NH - Wentworth By The Sea and Marina

Wentworth-by-the-Sea in Newcastle NH is one of the old gracious destination hotels of times gone by.  This beauty has had fabulous renovations done to it, and it alive and thriving today due to a group of people who came together, The Friends of the Wentworth Hotel.  They started the move to not destroy this old beauty, and it is now owned and operated by a hotel group.

Talk about location – this location is right on the water, overlooking a harbor leading directly into the Atlantic Ocean in one direction and overlooking the Back Channel that leads to the Piscataqua River and Portsmouth NH.

  • Ann this is a beautiful place and a terrific location. This makes me think of when the Rhinecliff hotel in Rhinebeck was renovates; it is now in place to be.

I love that hotel. We had our company holiday party there a few years ago and I just wanted to curl up and stay forever.

The Wentworth is gorgeous for sure! It took a lot of time and a lot of money to bring back her beauty, but they certainly achieved their goal. It makes me think of The Mt. Washington, The Mountainview Grand, and The Balsams, all beautiful destination hotels of the same era as The Wentworth.

Interesting that there are three nearly-new, multi-million dollar houses (5000-7000 sqft) for sale on Heather Drive with this view. If the owners are locked into high asking prices, as they probably are, then they could remain for sale for YEARS before someone is willing to pay a big premium for this view.

Check out the sobering article in today’s New York Times about Nantucket real estate: 600 homes for sale and only 4 sold in March and 4 in May!

Hi Laurie – thanks for visiting my photo blog and commenting on this picture. There are 3 homes right there currently for sale, all have great views for sure. Time will tell what each of those homes will sell for, and we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on them.

I don’t know the Nantucket market, so I don’t have any idea how their market is doing, whether they’re bottomed out yet or not. If those numbers really reflect their market, they may have a little ways to go before they show some positive signs.

Thanks again for checking out my site,
      Ann
