Portsmouth NH and Kittery Maine are separated by the Piscataqua River.  This picture was taken from the banks of Portsmouth NH, along Peirce Island which connects to Prescott Park.  This picture shows all 3 bridges that connect Portsmouth homes to Kittery homes.

This is one of three bridges that connect New Hampshire to Maine from Portsmouth NH.  This one is often referred to as the “downtown bridge”.  It’s a drawbridge that goes up every half hour to allow the tugboats, sailboats, and freighters to pass up and down the Piscataqua River.  Portsmouth NH is a working port, and we have constant river traffic that depends on this bridge being raised like clockwork.  The real name of this bridge is the Memorial Bridge, and has been placed on the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places for 2009.
