Merry Christmas from Portsmouth NH – Decked Out Downtown

Portsmouth NH always looks beautiful decked out in holiday finery, and this year is no exception. We always have a huge locally grown tree in the center of Market Square and all of our street lamps downtown are encased in beautiful wreaths. And if you call Portsmouth New Hampshire home, you get to see our beautiful downtown area all the time – how great that is!

The Grand Rockingham House | Portsmouth NH Condos

This gorgeous downtown Portsmouth NH building is The Rockingham. This was formerly The Rockingham Hotel, and what a grand hotel it was. I remember when these were first converted into condominiums and they were open to the public to come tour.

The Rockingham is now home to beautiful Portsmouth NH condos. The lobby is just gorgeous, full of fabulous original woodwork, and you can just imagine the wealthy travelers back then having tea and mixing with their friends. The condos in the main part of the building are mostly one-bedroom units, and in the newer section those condos are 2 and bedroom units.

Just one of many gorgeous historic buildings you can find all around town – many with beautiful Portsmouth condos in them!

Portsmouth NH Downtown Lodging

As you come into the downtown areas of Portsmouth NH from one of the northern roads, one of the first downtown brick buildings you’ll see is this one in the picture. This is the Sheraton Hotel downtown, and they did a great job of making it blend in the beautiful brick buildings that make up most of our downtown area.

The Piscataqua River is to the left in this picture, giving visitors a great view of our working port and the river that divides New Hampshire and Maine. All of the fun in downtown Portsmouth is within a very short walk from here – shopping, galleries, dining, people-watching, theaters, and more…..

A Riverside Catnap in Portsmouth NH

I was down on the Portsmouth NH waterfront the other morning, and happened by this bench where someone was taking a little catnap. I’m not sure I could sleep in such a public place, then again I’m such a light sleeper, I wouldn’t even try that anyway. But what a peaceful view to look out on, even if you aren’t napping by the river.

We’ve got lots of benches scattered around the riverfront area and in the park along the river – Prescott Park – so if you want a little nap or to just sit and relax along the water, come on down!

Things You Find On The Side of The Road | Portsmouth NH

I saw this lady sitting by the side of the road in Portsmouth NH the other day, and I just had to turn around and go take a picture of her! She’s certainly dressed for the weather, except for her knee socks and gloves……

Hawking her produce on the side of the road…. nope, I didn’t stop in and visit her Farm Stand, but I might one of these days!

Portsmouth NH Lobster Pier

One of our local Portsmouth NH lobstering businesses – see all the traps on the dock? This is a serious business around here because NH and Maine lobsters are shipped all over the world, as well as to all the local area seafood restaurants. And we can buy them right off the boats for ouselves – talk about fresh and oh so delicious!!!

Thanks to all the local lobstermen for the wonderful lobsters they bring back for us to enjoy! Y-U-M-M-Y!

Portsmouth NH – Portsmouth Harbor Beauty

A beautiful view of Portsmouth NH Harbor. Across the water is Kittery Maine. The Piscataqua River, which has the 3rd fastest current in the world, is the dividing line between New Hampshire and Maine.

The boats in the picture are pointing upriver towards Portsmouth and then to Great Bay beyond that. In the other direction is the mighty Atlantic Ocean and our Isles of Shoals, which are a group of islands about 7 miles off shore.

Here in the Portsmouth NH area, we have beauty all around us!

Art in the Park | Portsmouth NH Homes

Just about everywhere you look around Portsmouth NH, you’ll find art of some sort. We have a lot of sweet little pocket parks and gardens scattered around town, and we have some very nice larger parks and gardens, too. This fountain and statue are located in Prescott Park, right in the downtown area and on the banks of the Piscataqua River.

Prescott Park has several fountains in it, and this one has a lovely statue in the middle of it. On hot summer days, I have to say that water is very inviting……
